Still not sure if your vehicles’ starter & electrical system needs servicing? Read our FAQ’s to avoid a dead car diagnosis:

My car started but the instrument panel lights did not turn on. I can’t see my speed!

If you turn the ignition on and no lights come on at the instrument panel means that there is no power coming from the battery. It could be a dead battery or a bad ignition switch. Turn the headlights switch on; if they work, means the battery has power, so the problem could be with the ignition switch or wiring between the ignition switch and battery. If no lights coming on in the dash and no other electrical consumers work, the battery could be completely dead or there is no connection between the battery and the vehicle electrical system. Check if the battery terminals look tight. If the battery is completely dead, jump starting might help

I’m stuck in a parking lot and my car won’t turn over – is it the crank? Battery??

If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the “Start” position, it means that the starter motor doesn’t turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; the ignition switch could be bad; the starter solenoid control wire could have a bad connection; the starter motor itself or a starter solenoid could be bad; a neutral safety switch is bad; a problem with vehicle’s security system or some other electronic control module (e.g., ECM, BCM)

About how long will it take to diagnose why my vehicle won’t start?

We’ve had technicians tell us it takes as little as 45 minutes, while other technicians say it could take up to three hours to test each system. If it takes longer the technician will inform you.

Do you offer any coupons or group a full car inspection with other services?

Please see our coupons page to see if we’re running a full systems check inspection. We can group multiple services such as air filter change, brake pad replacement etc. with the oil changes.

I’m leasing my vehicle. Why should I worry about servicing my BMW?

There are two reasons why you should maintain your vehicle. Regularly maintaining your car is the best way to protect your investment. Proper maintenance will also reward you with more economical, trouble-free driving and help reduce air pollution. Also, vehicle condition is evaluated at the end of the lease period and you will be charged for abnormal conditions that reduce the value of the vehicle. This includes mechanical condition.

What causes a car not to start? How can I prevent this in the future?

Like anything else, car parts wear down and eventually stop working. There is no clear cut way of preventing any one part from not working. If you feel or hear something, contact Otobots immediately so they can diagnose the problem and fix it before it becomes a bigger problem
