Smartphone App Aims to Make Auto Repair More Convenient and Affordable

OtoBots has announced the expansion of their mobile automotive repair service in the Texas area. A new Uber style search for auto repair by using the app or website to find car mechanic that will come to the customer at their home or work.

OtoBots uses certified auto mechanics with at least five years’ experience that have undergone background checks in addition to professional references and credentials. Otobots provides a 12 month, 12,000 warranty on all work auto repair performed by their mechanics. According to the spokesperson Simon, the idea sprang out of our experiences using Craigslist to find mechanics: “I had no guarantee that they were going to call me back or return if there was a problem. How do you trust them? You have no clue who’s coming to your house and there’s no warranty whatsoever.”

OtoBots is currently available in the Houston and Dallas area and is soon expanding to Austin.

Using the app to find a certified mechanic is a simple 3-step process that can be performed on the app or via the website. By providing the automobile’s general information and what services are required a quote is returned and a time and location can be negotiated to have the auto repair work performed. In addition to the convenience of having mechanics come to the customer, there is an expected savings of up to 30 percent by working directly with the certified mechanics as they do not have the overhead that a typical auto service center would have. The most popular services include oil changes, starter replacements, brake service, tune ups, engine diagnosis, and many more. OtoBots provides free mechanic consultation and complimentary car inspections as part of its regular services. Stranded motorists can also use the app the find a mechanic.

OtoBots was featured in NBC 5, Time Magazine and Crain’s Chicago Business.
